GIVE TIME

Volunteers are essential to the success of Mid-Ohio Foodbank. There are countless ways you can make a difference—from sorting and packing groceries to contacting an elected official to discuss the importance of emergency food in our community.

So many ways to volunteer

Whether it’s 1 day a year or a few hours a week, your hands-on contributions of time and energy help us get food where and when it’s needed most. We welcome individuals and groups on weekdays, some weeknights, and weekends. We will work with you to arrange a volunteer opportunity that fits your schedule.

Opportunities include, but are not limited to:

KROGER COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

Established in 2012, the Kroger Community Food Pantry operates as a choice food pantry and is open to the community four days a week. Last year, the Pantry provided groceries to nearly 8,000 households in the greater Columbus Area. The success of the Pantry depends on the commitment and generosity of many volunteers. Mid-Ohio Foodbank needs volunteers to staff the Welcome Desk, stock grocery items, and assist families shopping in the Pantry.

FOOD RECLAMATION AND REPACKING/WAREHOUSE

Our food reclamation and repacking volunteers inspect and assess the safety of donated foods that were taken off the shelves at grocery stores or even online marketplaces. These volunteers sort, label, and repack bulk food into usable quantities. In addition, lifting may be involved (boxes weigh between 10 and 20 pounds).

MID-OHIO FOODBANK COMMUNITY GARDENS

The community gardens at the foodbank seek volunteers who will help plant, weed, maintain, and harvest the gardens. With your help, we will grow fresh and healthy produce for distribution both in the Kroger Community Food Pantry and to our partner agencies.

SOUTH SIDE ROOTS CAFE, MARKET & KITCHEN

Located at the Reeb Avenue Center, South Side Roots is a pay-what-you-can cafe that offers low-cost meals with a varied payment structure, allowing patrons to pay for their meal, pay it forward for a neighbor’s meal, or give payment through volunteering.
