Volunteering
The
Mid-Ohio FoodBank's mission is to
provide food for hungry people. Volunteers
enable the Foodbank to feed more hungry people than we ever could on our
own. We can use your help.
Nearly 20% of the food and other products
we receive must be sorted and/or repackaged into usable sizes.
Each year, more than 5,000 volunteers sort and repack food at the
Foodbank.
Volunteering at the Foodbank provides an
opportunity for families, friends, co-workers and other groups to work
and spend time together while helping others.

What Volunteer
Opportunities are Available?
|
|
|
We realize that your time is often the
most valuable gift you can give, so we want to match your interests and
skills with our needs. There are several volunteer options
available at the Foodbank:
- Reclamation
- Food Repackaging
Reclamation
- By far, the largest need is for reclamation volunteers.
Retail Reclamation is non-perishable food and other products that
were damaged at the grocery store and taken off the shelves.
Volunteers are trained by Foodbank staff to carefully inspect each
item to determine its safety. To work in reclamation, a
volunteer must be at least 13 years old.
Food Repackaging
- Repacking includes labeling, sorting or boxing food into usable
sizes, and preparing 4,250 food packages for senior citizens each
month.
Special Projects
- Volunteers help out with projects throughout the year. These could
include special events, mailings, data entry or other initiatives
and services, including special activities for youth service groups
and school children.
