Administrative Needs:
MOBILE MARKET AND PRODUCE MARKET SURVEYORS
Ages 18 and over are welcome. From January through June of 2013, it is estimated MOF will be distributing close to 12 million pounds of produce. This survey will help MOF identify the impact of the benefits of our produce programs and how we can continue to serve a healthy community! If you like to interview people, are interested in going directly to sites where MOF distributes food, and are comfortable working in a variety of settings, this might be a good volunteer position for you. Surveying will begin in May and continue through August, and you can choose the times and places that suit your schedule. There will be plenty of surveying available M-F in the morning and afternoon and also some evening and Saturday surveying. You will be working directly with our Agency Programs Manager, Kerry McCarthy on this project.
HUNGER STUDY SURVEYOR TRAINING:
Ages 18 and over are welcome. The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is looking for volunteers to help us with a Client Survey project that begins in May and runs through August. Every four years foodbanks across the country perform a comprehensive survey of those we serve and support. This year Mid-Ohio Foodbank will be sending teams of 3-5 volunteers out to 110 of our partner agencies to conduct surveys with families and individuals. If you have ever wanted to see firsthand where the food goes and meet some of the wonderful people that you help through your efforts, this is the right project for you.
As we prepare for this project we are looking to you, our great volunteers as a perfect group of folks to help us with this initiative. We will be holding as series of training classes over the coming weeks to acquaint you with the survey process and get you properly prepared. The classes will take approximately 2 hours and will be offered both during the day and in the evenings.
Beyond the initial training, you’ll be able to sign up for dates and locations using VolunteerHub. For more information about this project, please see the description that will be included in the posting of the training classes. You can also reach out to our Hunger Study Coordinator, Mark Mollenkopf or 614.317.9450.
To register for training, please log back into VolunteerHub.
FRONT DESK GREETER
We are looking for more dedicated and long-term volunteers who can commit to one or two days a week (mainly during business hours) to help support our Front Desk and Volunteer Services Greeter stations. Duties include answering phones, checking in volunteers and helping with any administrative projects as needed. If you are interested in a long-term commitment, please email a message to Elena
Giving Takes Time
Volunteers are essential to Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Nearly 20 percent of the food we receive must be sorted and packaged before it’s delivered to people in need. Whether it’s one day a year or a few hours a week, your hands-on contributions of time and energy help us get food where and when it’s needed most.
One person or a big group. Weekday and several evenings and weekends. Morning or evening. We work with you to arrange a volunteer opportunity that suits you.
Ways To Give
Food Reclamation and Repacking
What is it? We Inspect and determine the safety of donated foods that were damaged at the grocery store and taken off the shelves. Or label, sort, and repack food into usable sizes.
Volunteers will be on their feet and moving around for the time that they're here (breaks are allowed). There is lifting involved - our boxes weigh between 10 and 20 pounds. We DO NOT have any sit down jobs in the warehouse. Since we are dependent on donations, there are several different projects you may find yourself working on during your volunteer shift with us. Click on “types of projects” button above to view more.
Kroger Community Food Pantry
The Kroger Community Food Pantry at Mid-Ohio Foodbank has provided grocery products to over 4,000 households in the greater Columbus area. The success of the Pantry depends upon the commitment and generosity of many volunteers! We need people to assist families shopping in the Pantry, to staff the Welcome Desk, and to stock grocery items in the Pantry.

Student Night Activities
If you are over 13 years old, you can join us for a student night volunteer shift. We reserve every Thursday from September through May for students.
You are welcome to arrive by 3:30 p.m. Shift starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. You can also come in over your spring break or the summer to get your school volunteer requirements fulfilled early.
Special Events
Stay tuned for special event help such as set up, clean up, food drive collections and much more!
Administrative Tasks
The Foodbank has a variety of administrative opportunities such as stuffing envelopes, data entry and web-based projects.
We have ambassador programs available for those who are interested in investing a consistent schedule to Greet at our front desk, help with confirmation calls or other duties as assigned. Not ideal for one time, or short term volunteers. Contact the Volunteer Department to learn more.
MOF Community Garden
The Community Garden at the Foodbank is looking for volunteers who will help plant, weed, maintain, and harvest the garden. With your help, we will create fresh and healthy produce that will be made available for distribution to our partner agencies. We need many hands to be successful in the garden and welcome both experienced and first time gardeners!
If you are interested in helping out in the garden, please contact the Garden and Cooking Demonstration Coordinator - VISTA, Katie Minter at kminter@midohiofoodbank.org or 614-317-9488. We post all volunteer opportunities on VolunteerHub and have garden work days on Tuesday afternoons.
